On the shortlist
My 2008 collection of essays, Interior Places, was chosen by the Carnegie-Stout public library in Dubuque, Iowa, as one of the five finalists for the All Iowa Reads and One Book One Nebraska, to be read and discussed across both states in 2019. I didn’t win (that honor went to Ted Genoways’ very worthy book), but I’m delighted to have made the shortlist.
The five shortlisted titles appear below.
Dreamland: The True Tale of America's Opiate Epidemic by Sam Quinones
The Homesman: A Novel by Glendon Swarthout
Interior Places by Lisa Knopp
This Blessed Earth: A Year in the Life of an American Family Farm by Ted Genoways
A Warrior of the People: How Susan La Flesche Overcame Racial and Gender Inequality to Become America's First Indian Doctor by Joe Starita.
